Nicole (NYS Certified Dance Teacher) graduated Skidmore College magna cum laude with Honors in Dance while also studying Early Childhood Education and Business. Under the direction of Kathleen Isaac, Nicole completed her MA in Dance Education (summa cum laude) as a scholarship student at Hunter College’s Arnhold Graduate Dance Education Program. Nicole has worked with many notable choreographers including Robert Battle & Camille A. Brown. She currently works as a freelance dancer with the Matthew Westerby Company and Valerie Green/Dance Entropy.
Nicole’s passion for performing runs just as deep for sharing the joy of dance through teaching. She currently teaches for Ailey’s Arts In Education & Community Programs, The Ailey School, and Ballet & Beyond NYC. In 2020 she became the founding dance teacher at P.S. 17 where she developed a robust dance program for grades 1-5. She resigned to spend more time dancing and with her two human creations - her young boys. Nicole enjoys choreographing her own work, which has been presented throughout NYC. In 2018 she created NK&D / a movement company - a dance company that focuses on bringing accessible dance to diverse audiences.
In addition to running these classes, Nicole currently teaches at The Ailey School for the Bounding Boys program. She also works as a Teaching Artist for Ailey's Arts In Education and Ballet & Beyond NYC.
Nicole was the founding dance teacher at P.S. 17; she still returns weekly running a Ballet & Beyond satellite program offering pre-professional dance training for students interested in concert-style dance.
During my seven years as director, I have hired and witnessed dozens of dance teaching artists. I have admired each of them, but Nicole stands out above all the rest for her compassion, sense of engagement, awareness of environment, and ability to command attention in a gentle manner. And she is an absolutely beautiful dancer.
Within the first ten minutes of observing and participating in classes last Wednesday, I could see that Ailey Arts In Education Teaching Artist Nicole Kadar was a master teacher. She introduced descriptive words and modeled ways for the children to move their bodies, never losing the children's attention. The children eagerly followed her instructions and danced to a variety of music including classical music from Swan Lake. The look on the children's faces as they moved to the music was excitement and pure joy.
Three valuable things I learned: dealing with children's behaviors, especially unusual ones; developing a lesson plan and making it happen; the use of props, music, and plenty of imagery.
Do we have to leave? I just want to live here. When I grow up I'm going to be a dancer.
